When Kalonzo Musyoka asked for forgiveness from leaders from his Ukambani backyard that he might have displeased by declaring support for President Uhuru Kenyatta, nobody seemed to be sure who he was referring to.
But yesterday it became clear that he was directing his apology to Johnston Muthama, his ally of almost ten years.
And yesterday, Mr Muthama responded to the former vice president: apology not accepted.
Mr Muthama and his political protégé, Mr Musyoka started pulling in different directions over a week ago when the former Machakos senator announced that he would be taking Kalonzo into a new alliance, this time with Deputy President William Ruto.
The following day, Kalonzo dismissed the possibility of such an alliance and declared he would support President Kenyatta up to and beyond 2022.
“Kalonzo’s offer of support to President Uhuru Kenyatta even after 2022 does not reflect the will of the Kamba people, those are his personal sentiment,” said Mr Muthama.
He declared himself the Kamba kingpin and announced that he intended to bring together Dr Ruto, Mr Musalia Mudavadi and Mr Moses Wetangula to form one powerful force that can win presidential elections in 2022.
